ECU Pirate Entrepreneurship Challenge
About the Pirate Entrepreneurship Challenge:
The Pirate Entrepreneurship Challenge is ECU College of Businesses’ Miller School of Entrepreneurship signature business pitch competition. The competition is open to all entrepreneurship teams that have at least one enrolled ECU student. This three round pitch competition begins in October with over 60 student teams in an open-air trade show. The field narrows to 12 teams for the second round of the competition in November, six teams will advance from the second round to the third and final round in February. The six semifinalists are paired with individual mentors to help further develop the business concept. At the final competition in February three finalists will be announced and $20,000 in cash prizes will be awarded to the winners. Winners from the Pirate Challenge will go on to represent ECU at Regional and National competitions.
The twelve semi-finalists pitched their ideas for 5 minutes to a panel of five judges Wednesday November 15, 2017 at the Hilton in Greenville, NC. Each judge will select one team to mentor from November until the final pitch competition in February 2018. A sixth team was chosen by popular vote of the audience to be coached by the Miller School of Entrepreneurship team.
